USSF Certification for Affiliated Youth and Amateur Games
All affiliated Eastern New York leagues require that all referees be certified by the United States Soccer
Federation (USSF).
WSRO offers USSF Grade Level 8 Referee and Grade Level 9 Recreational Referee courses in the Westchester County
area. Courses are taught by certified USSF instructors. To find the course dates, locations and fees,

USSF Grade 8 Referee
The Grade Level 8 course of eighteen (18) hours of instruction. The course is given over a number of days,
normally on weekends or during weekday evenings. Attendance at all sessions is required for successful completion
of the course. One must be fifteen years of age by the start of the upcoming soccer season to attend.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be registered as Grade 8 Referees with the United
States Soccer Federation. There are no restrictions as to the level of games the referee may officiate.
The course fee includes USSF registration for the current year (and upcoming year if the course is in August
or later in the year) as well as WSRO dues.
USSF Grade 9 Recreational Referee
Grade Level 9 Recreational Referees may officiate games as either Referees or Assistant Referees for
recreational youth games for under-14 and younger. They may also officiate travel team matches up through u-11.
The Grade 9 course consists of an eight-hour class, either presented in one day or in two half-days.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be registered as Grade 9 Recreational Referees
with the United States Soccer Federation. The course fee includes USSF registration for the current year
(and upcoming year if the course is in August or later in the year) as well as WSRO dues, plus a full uniform
with 2 shirts, whistle, line flags and a carrying bag.
We also present a ten-hour "Bridge Course" which enables one to upgrade from Grade Level 9 to Grade Level 8.
