SOCCER REFEREE COURSES for New Referees

Westchester Soccer Referee Organization (WSRO) hosts the entry-level soccer courses presented by Eastern New York State Youth Soccer. Course Descriptions

The comprehensive Level 8 course (no restrictions on games assigned) is 18 hours and covers all aspects of rules, techniques, game control, etc. One must be 15 years old by the start of the upcoming season to take this course. There is a multiple choice exam at the last session. The test may be taken in Spanish. Upon passing, the new referee is eligible to referee anywhere (except in school games) and at all levels of competition. Fee is $125 and includes USSF registration and WSRO dues for the current and upcoming year.

The Level 9 short course (for recreation league games and small sided travel games) is an 8-hour (one day or two afternoon) course, which also covers all aspects of the rules, and prepares individuals for refereeing for u-9 and u-11 travel and recreation league games and as well as for the role of Assistant Referee (formerly linesperson). Fee is $135 and includes USSF registration and WSRO dues for the current and upcoming year plus a full uniform with 2 shirts, whistle, line flags and a carrying bag.

We also present a ten-hour “bridge course” which enables one to upgrade from grade level 9 to grade level 8. Fee is $85 and one does not need to register/recertify.

The WSRO provides testing and certification, training programs, clinics, assessment and mentoring programs for referees.

CROSS-OVER CERTIFICATION:

AYSO Area Ref or Sectional Ref is automatic cross-certification to USSF level 8 (beginning status); no further testing nor qualifying is necessary. Call Bruce Mandel at 914 673-2590 or e-mail him at bmandel@wsroassignor.com to become processed. AYSO Regional Ref does not qualify.
